BAND: Sniper on the Roof - JHB - South Africa

SNIPER ON THE ROOF were formed in November 2002 and comprised of Fergus Henning - lead vocal, Stuart Anslie - guitar, Simon Stewart - bass guitar, Arnold Moellenaar - drummer. SNIPER ON THE ROOF first gig was at Fergus's 21st Birthday Party, we rehearsed a couple cover tracks a bashed them out for all the party goers pretty impressive for a first gig there were actually people there. Stuart Ainslie left after just one show! and was quickly replaced by NUTTER and still band clown Fourie Smit We continued to play a handful of local (empty/cashless) gigs in and around Jo'burg. Stuart Ainslie went on to open a recording studio named Smack ent. and S.O.T.R got to record their first full length album for "nix", Self titled with tracks "Hyperdermic" "Street Fight" "I see through you" "Bang Crash Hobo" "Shebeen Queen" "Hippie Song" "Pregnancy Safari" "Stupid Bitch" "Get Away" "e-e-evil". The album was put out totally D.I.Y and financially supported by members in the band. A few months after the release of the album and a single guest appearance with Martin Rocka and the Sick Shop, Fergus left the band to go to America and Mexico to follow his internet love affairs blaming the lack of money, he was working at the local video store and couldn't stand losing any more money at gigs, Fergus ended up in the U.K and still resides there! We needed a new screamer asap! One night wasted at a party, we bumped into a local Drunken Party Animal by the name of OLD SKEWL (Alex) "he is really old!" he looked the part and a perfect candidate to fill the spot leading this parade of chaos that we were so well know for. Two months down the line we finally got hold of "OLD SKEWL" through a girl we knew at the time who got him to attend one of our rehearsals, he was as enthusiastic as the rest of the chaps, a bit hard to understand at first but alas the spot was filled. S.O.T.R were alive and kicking, playing more shows than ever, doing interviews and reviews, calls from clubs to play their venues and a lot more supporters, we had built up a strong, sound local following. Not being able to play the "BIG" shows....?.... Woodstock 7 was on it's way and there was absolutely no way we were going to miss this opportunity, everything had boiled down to this. We planned a few surprise appearance options and then one evening out with Jason Moriarty from the Ride Authority FMX the decision was made to play underneath them while they ramped over our heads, WHOA!!! hell yeah. That was the most breathtaking experience any one of us have had, It was "A". But, alas, after a run in with the law and still no money coming from the gigs, "OLD SKEWL" decided to part with the band and emigrate to Canada in early 2006, it seems that once a year we loose someone in the band.........To an entire different country.....hummm!!! We were on the lookout for yet another screamer, and he came in the form of ADAM a dark handsome young lad, who was already into Sniper on the Roof and could sing along to all the songs, he is a true supporter, biker, tattoo and beer lover and now the new singer and songwriter for the forthcoming album to be released early next year 2007....with all the changes going on within the band and a vision to make the new album a more powerful sound we recruited second guitarist JAQUES "DIE SPYKER" DE JAGER and all his bad habits ;-).... NOW!! with all these diverse, challenged, old and young lads it's no wonder we are our own biggest fans "we have to put up with these R-SOULS to play the music we play". loud! raw! and offensive! Keeping the Fuck You attitude alive! We play whatever we want! However we want! And we have a fuck load of fun doing it! Stop Drop 'n Roll......... Sniper on the Roof
