Bio:
Betty Ford Center was formed by Lucia, Max e Tiziano in July 2005. Shortly afterwards, they won the “Suburban Live Set” contest, judged by some of the most qualified music journalists in Italy.
In August 2006 they won two other national contests, the “Silvi Marina Rock Fest”, and a little later, in September, the “Noise not music” contest.
Following the beautiful outcome of the Suburban contest, they were one of the 30 bands selected to take part of the “Sonica Fest”, a popular rock festival whose guests in the past have been artists such as Blonde Redhead, Afterhours, Skunk Anansie, Cristina Donà, Coldplay. They also appeared on the front page of several local and national newspapers, acclaimed for their outstanding originality and, at the same time, for their contiguity with the best of “female rock music”.
In January they recorded “Enjoy the rehab” at the Red House Recordings studio with David Lenci (sound engineer for Shellac and Blonde Redhead). It’s their first demo and contains 4 tracks full of acid anger and emotional schizophrenia. At the Red House they were also lucky enough to meet Rob Ellis (ex producer and drummer of P.J.Harvey) and to benefit from his precious suggests.
The first tour of the band took place in early March. As Betty Ford Center kept performing throughout Italy they often aired on radio and tv broadcastings and got quite a bit of attention on the web.
In September the video of the song Miss Borderline, was released, and won the prize for best photography in an important Italian indie video contest, thus leading to more appearances on several TV and radio channels.
The new year also started off on the right track for Betty Ford Center, with a long interview from RGB Magazine, distributed throughout Italy. The band was also selected by Oliviero Toscani, very famous photographer and creative director, and the video of the song Yvonne Meringa was shown in rotation on Music Box.
At moment Betty Ford Center keep on playing around, often sharing the stage with international bands (most recently with The Holloways, well known English one and supporters for Babyshambles), and wait for a label to release their first record.
"Rough, dreadfully essential, Betty Ford Center are characterized both by hard and obsessive lyrics and by “ill” sounds, at the limit of an autistic approach of single instruments (guitar, bass, drums)”.
