Bio:
The Pinstripes,
are a six-piece ska band hailing from Cincinnati, Ohio. The band was formed in October of 2003 when the punk rock band Forest Fire, consisting of Matt Kursmark on guitar, Chris Grannen on bass, and Jared Goldfarb on drums, decided to add horns and switch into the genre of ska. They called on Mike Sarason to play saxophone and Ben Pitz to play trumpet, and rounded out the group with the addition of Candace Washburn on vocals. The Pinstripes sound is an experimental mix of rock, ska, reggae, punk, funk, and even hip-hop. They derived their sound from such influential bands as The Toasters, The Skatalites, Streetlight Manifesto, and The Slackers. The result is a new twist to an old, familiar, and catchy style.
The Pinstripes have been on the Cincinnati scene playing numerous shows since their inception in 2003. During this time, The Pinstripes have shared the stage with such bands as the Toasters, Mustard Plug, and Big D & The Kids Table. The Pinstripes released their self-titled EP in August of 2004. It was the first release from the band and was recorded at Group Effort Sound Studios, located in Northern Kentucky, over 4 days in mid-June, 2004. It contains 7 original songs that any ska fan will enjoy. Since then, The Pinstripes have had two additional releases, a split release over the summer of 2005 with fellow ska-rockers The Prairie Dog Gangsters, and an acoustic EP released in December of 2005. Both releases displayed the rising levels of the groupÃ???s songwriting capabilities and tightness as a band. In addition, these releases saw the group expanding their musical horizons, at times moving deeper into reggae and dub sounds and even composing a straight up folk song.
However, you cannot fully experience The Pinstripes sound until you have been to one of their live shows. They bring a tremendous amount of energy into each and every one of their shows; something that one has to witness firsthand in order to comprehend. Music fans across the Midwest got to do just that during June of 2005, when The Pinstripes embarked on their first tour, which the band set up and managed completely on their own. Also during the summer of 2005, The Pinstripes were awarded a spot on the Vans Warped Tour when it came through Cincinnati, something they considered a huge honor.
Fast forwarding to the present day, The Pinstripes have some big plans for 2006. Recording for the bandÃ???s first full-length release will start around the beginning of the summer and plans for another tour, this time also encompassing the east coast and parts of the south, are in development right now. So be sure to be on the look out for The Pinstripes in a record store near you and a venue near you in 2006!
