Bio:
Inspired by the best moments of punk rock history, Budapest three-piece Bankrupt deliver a unique blend of newschool and oldschool melodic punk. Their sophomore release, Bad Hair Day (released by local label PiaR Records) combines their influences ranging from ?77 punk (Ramones, Clash) to rocknroll punk (Dwarves) and melodycore (NOFX). The new CD was welcomed by a 10/10 rating by prominent German web portal Southspace.de.
In the fall of 2004, the band opened for the Toy Dolls in Budapest in front of 800 people, and they also played the Punk Aid Festival in Prague headlined by The Damned. 2005 also included several gigs in Austria and Germany, and Munich-based label Bad Land Records took over the German distribution of Bad Hair Day.
During the nine years of their existence, Bankrupt have played about 200 concerts, including several big festivals, in Hungary and nearby countries like Austria, Italy, Germany, Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia, and the Czech Republic (including a tour supporting local punk heroes SPS) while their music also got a friendly reception in other parts of Europe, and in North America.
Bankrupt's first full-length album "Listen" was released in September 2000. (Both Bad Hair Day and Listen are available on interpunk.com). The band's songs appeared on international compilations and Bankrupt is proud to have supported internationally recognised acts like the Toy Dolls (UK), D.O.A. (CAN), The Real McKenzies (CAN), Foxy (USA), Yumi Yumi (JAP), Sunshine (CZ), the Argies (RA), and Whippersnapper (USA). They played festivals in Germany (Townquake Ansbach, WGSOAF R?benau), Austria (Halloween Festival, Eastpark, M?hl-O-Mat, Moshpit, Reed Rock, Conformity Kills), Croatia (Dirty Old Festival), Slovenia (No Border Jam), the Czech Republic (Punk Aid, Ji?ňak), and Hungary (Sziget, Wanted, EFOTT, V4, etc.).
Having released their long-awaited second album, Bankrupt will continue playing in Central and Western Europe in 2005, hopefully soon at a venue near you.
Melody Maker's Holly Hernandez described Bankrupt's 1999 four-song EP All the Neighbours Know It's the Sound as "they sound heartfelt and the songs are well put together and display a grasp of melodic punk that doesn't just involve attitude without substance." It still applies.
