Bio:
The group was founded in May 2002 when Peter Schmidt, the singer, joined Matjaz Naglic the guitar player, and Dare Gozdnikar, the drummer. After the original bass guitar player left, Tomaz Brumec joined instead of him and since then the group has remained unchanged.
The seat of the group is in the building of the Ljubecna pri Celju local community. This is where the band practice and make music. Even though the guitar player comes from Ljubecna pri Celju and the bass player is from Vojnik, the group presents itself as a Celje based group.
The author of most of the songs is the guitar player. He started making music together with his friends who called themselves Stranci and made his solo debut with a CD ?ivot je kocka (Life is a dice).
After a few months of practice and working on the music the newly formed group Stranci decided to freshen up some of the old songs, change the arrangement and structure of some of the songs and re-record them in this new form on the Stranci second CD. In this process the songs got a sharper edge and a more organic sound image.
In December 2003 Stranci closed themselves into Studio Ant in Zadobrova pri Celju and, with the help of sound master ITZ (Iztok Mravlje), recorded the material for the new CD with the title Zavrnjeno (Rejected). The recording of ground, that is bass, drums and rhythm guitar took three days whereas the additional recordings of guitars and vocals as well as the final mix took a few months because of problems with time adjustment. Damjana Brumec from studio Umbra is responsible for designing the cover.
So in October 2005 the new CD from Stranci finally came to light.
The CD Zavrnjeno was published by the author with a limited edition of 500 copies. Stranci believe that the CD is somewhere between the music of garage bands and hard rock. The texts which are Slovenian and Croatian are ironic and full of black humour.
There are 12 authorial songs on the CD and also an adaptation of the song Lepi in prazni (The beautiful and the empty) by the legendary Pankrti.
Stranci have been gathering mileage in different Slovenian clubs and other places, for example Zlata Cinela in Ljutomer, the Rock Otocec pre-selection in MCC Celje, the 4th Annual Bikers Meeting (the largest moto-gathering in Slovenia, organized by MK Panther) and this year at Pivo in cvetje in Lasko.
Otherwise, the members of Stranci are old acquaintances from all sorts of bands, such as: Lokalne pizde, Baby zdravo, Ritem sestre, The Stroj, Daddy's pudding, Phone Box Vandaly etc.
On November 12 Stranci finished shooting their first video for the song Pozabi tako demokracijo (Forget this kind of democracy). The shooting took part in Ljubljana and also in the Panther's club in Celje.
