About me:
It ain't being in a "uniform", wether it is a mohawk and plaid pants with a studded jacket and a torn shirt, or a tie, studded wristbands, baggie pants, a baseball cap and wristcuffs. It ain't about being pissed off at the world and being mean to everybody, and the Sex Pistols' "No Future" is nothing but lyrics. You don't live your life by lyrics. It ain't about being the most hardcore kid of the block, being the one with the most studded wristbands and the one who gives the finger the most often, nor being the one who fights the most. PUNK IS NOT A COMPETITION. Punk is about being aware of what is going on in the world right now, and to kick and scream to change it. It's not about wether you wear a certain type of clothes. What society defines as punk is mostly stereotypes: Studded jackets. Plaid pants. Patches. Boots. Torn shirts. Colored hair. Piercings. Drugs. Tattoos. Pissing the world off. Being drunk and fighting. The punk VS authority thing though, is true, but for an obvious reason. The "punk" mentality is a mind of my own, and about being free and doing what I want to do, when I want to do it without boundaries. Though, authority IS boundaries. They represent a uniform, flat and conform society into which someone who thinks by himself/herself don't want to live in. Punk is about being true to oneself, and about taking care of each other, wether they are different or not. It's not about starting fights and riots at shows and ripping out each other's guts. It's not about being the toughest or the "punkest" of them all, in that case it would become some sort of conformity that competition is. There is no room for competition in the big family of punk. Being punk is about being an individual. If you're claiming to be punk, but make sure you have the most patches on your pants and think "what will people think if I wear that shirt?", it's become so pretty you can almost laugh at it. You can be punk and have an every day job
