2 Killed In Jefferson County Crash; 2 Other Victims Rescued From Burning Car.
Two Jefferson County teens died late Wednesday night, in a fiery crash on Highway 61 just south of Festus. Motorists who came upon the accident scene rescued 2 other people from a burning car.
17-year-old Anthony Barker of Festus and 16-year-old Victoria Dunn of Crystal City died when their vehicle crashed head-on with another. Anthony's mom said her son was driving his girlfriend home. Peggy Barker said, "Just by fluke, I heard about the accident and he hadn't been home from taking her home yet. I drove over and it was him."
The couple in the other car, Sherry and Robert Brewer, were heading home to Bloomsdale. They were flown by Arch Helicopter to a nearby hospital, where they are both listed in serious condition.
Debbie Dollar said her brother-in-law keeps thinking he's still at the accident scene. Dollar said, "He kept saying his feet was on fire at the hospital."
The only information about the accident is coming from the survivors. Corporal Ryan Burckhardt with the Missouri Highway Patrol said, "They are saying that the vehicle where the two people were killed in, crossed over the center-line without headlights on and struck them head-on."
The fire from the vehicle accident was so intense, the state patrol trooper who responded to the scene said he saw the glow from a mile-and-a-half away.
Rob Moreland and two others witnesses risked their own safety to pull the victims out of their cars. He said, "Passenger side of the vehicle started to light on fire." Newschannel 5's Rebecca W asked, "What did you do?" Rob answered, "I walked back to my vehicle, got my soda and dumped it on his feet because his foot was on fire."
Anthony Barker and Victoria Dunn both attended Crystal City High School.
