BAND: BOMF!
BOMF!
Bio:
In 1993, from the ashes of a concept-band-gone-wr ong called Dynachrome, BOMF! began it's humble beginnings in the basement of The Palace, a warehouse in downtown Portland that rented space to bands. Bass player, Burnt Carnage (MRNB, All Out, Jr. Samples) and guitarist LiableMoreThanLikabl e (MRNB, Jr. Samples, 800 Octane) cast aside the defunct Dynachrome and decided that what Portland really needed was one more punk band. So, Burnt and Liable recruited a drummer named Garcia and were joined by Guitarist Mic Hole and they set out to conquer the Portland music scene.

BOMF! was given it's first taste of fame when, on a lonely Saturday night, the 4 ~musicians~ were found to be the only band still at The Palace when the owner of Satyricon called looking for a band to "headline" a show that night. So, BOMF! loaded up all of their equipment and ran down to the world famous punk club to bask in their glory; and upon striking their first notes, watched the capacity crowd split for the door. By the time they had finished their 7 song set, only the club owner and the band were left.

Over the course of the remaining 8 months, BOMF! wrote more songs and soon began to play shows on a regular basis, but as life sometimes goes, the boys decided to pull up stakes and try life in another town. In October of 1993, BOMF! said goodbye to Garcia and loaded up their belongings in the back of a 1971 Ford F-100, and moved to Sacramento, California. And it was in Sacramento that the band found hatred... a hatred for BOMF! brand un-PC quirky punk.

In 1994, with a new drummer named Marshall, who played every bit as heavy and slow as Jon Bonham, the boys hit the studio and recorded 12 tracks of quirky punk rock. Mic Hole tended to write songs that were heavily influenced by Stone Temple Pilots and Pearl Jam, while Burnt and Liable tended to write hardcore and straight forward punk songs; the result was a demo tape of 8 extremely disjointed quirky punk rock songs and a 3 song split 7" with Portland pals Witch Throttlegush and the Green Devils.

In the summer of 1995, BOMF! said goodbye to Marshall and Mic Hole, and returned to their rightful home, Portland. With a renewed interest in creating punk rock, Burnt and Liable added drummer Drew Scarymore and hit the Portland scene with a vengeance. BOMF! began writing new songs and played every show they could squeeze their carcasses into. They also recorded 10 new songs with Drew, of which showed little resemblance to the sound they had in Sacramento.

Drew eventually left the band as was replaced by Little Stevie (just shut up!) in 1996 and shortly there after, added Big Scotty (Motherload, SK and the Punk Ass Bitches). It was with this new lineup that BOMF! found their sound. Loaded with the hate filled, uberfast Liable songs, the horror filled Burnt songs, and Scotty's pop sensibility, BOMF! hit the NW music scene and played every show they could weasel their way into. BOMF! went on to record 12 new songs (several re-recorded songs from the Drew days), produced a demo tape and then toured the western half of the United States.

Eventually, Little Stevie left the band and was replaced by Mel the Plummer (3 out of 4, 800 Octane, Blue Ribbon Boys). BOMF! was then asked to appear on several compilations, including Liverache: Songs About Drinking, Punk's Not Dead: A Tribute To The Exploited, Back To Donut, KPSU: Sound Adventure, and Last Chance In Portland. BOMF! proceeded to play around the Northwest as often as possible, but eventually Mel decided to leave the band.

In 1999, Dylan Trophywife (Trophywife, El Presidente, Diamond Tuck & The Privates) joined the band, just in time to record one last song, "What's This Shit Called Love", for a compilation, We're Not The Meatmen, But We Still Suck!: A Tribute To The Meatmen. The band played shows in and around the Portland area, but found that the steam had run out of the band. In late 1999, BOMF! said farewell after 6 years and over 40 recorded songs.

But that was not to be the end... in January of 2007, Big Scotty approached Liable and asked if he'd be interested in a reunion show. Liable agreed and BOMF! was back in business; Burnt returned to his role, as did Dylan. Over the years while the band was in hibernation, members of BOMF! had been asked for copies of the music they had recorded, so with a renewed interest in the band, the members of BOMF! decided to put together a compilation CD. On February 10th, 2007, the band released the limited edition "8 Years Too Late! 1993-1999", a 32 song compilation of the years that BOMF! had been a band. This CD contained tracks from two demo tapes, one 7", and numerous compilation CD's. The CD even contained an unreleased song from a very early recording; a dedication to long time band friend, Carl.

Now that the boys have played a show and released a CD (finally!), they've crawled back to their respective holes and permanent bands. Burnt returned to duty in Muddy River Nightmare Band, Big Scotty to SK & The Punk Ass Bitches, and Dylan to Diamond Tuck; however, BOMF! may return this summer for a short tour of the northwest.
