The protest culture has a lot of targets, which are political, social, and issues with the environment. The protest culture can be broken up into two groups? hippies and punks. Both punks and hippies protest which is evident, but they each vary in their topics and reasons. First, hippies tend to deal with topics like the environment and human / animal rights. Some topics that they tackle are environmental racism, gun control, and animal testing. Next, punks tend to target political and social issues such as racism, fascism, oppression, religion, and misuse of political power. The motivations to act between hippies and punks are polar opposites. Hippies act out of love and compassion. Punks act out of anger and frustration. This can be used to explain why punks hate hippies.
Example
The war in Iraq: Hippies protested the bombing in Iraq based on the love for life and the death of the innocent victims. Punks protested the war based on the image that George W. Bush was acting in a fascist manner.
