What do you think punk is?
I've got two posts up and I've got a some good punk responses from each; good passionate responses.
this isn't a blog as much as a question to you younger punks. I get the feeling that a lot of you don't associate yourself with the '77 Anarcho-punk culture. You listen to old punk but don't practice old punk.
A lot of your moral code seems to be defensive reactions to society not a proactive attack on society's moral code.
So, even if your emo, I'd like to hear what you consider a punk is, how fashion fits in, and what limits should be put on punks. Where does apathy come in? And education in a DIY lifestyle.

SWASTIKAS AND THE PUNK MOVEMENT OR HOW THE NEO NAZIS FUCKED SID VICIOUS
Check out my profile and you'll see comments calling me a racist fuck. My crime is putting up a Nazi Swastika on my profile. It's imagery is stronger and more convincing than the comment on the picture that says < " A punk will never forget what his parents and government let slide." (or something like that).
The people who called me a nazi reflected to me how far the punk movement has migrated from its propagators.
Short history on the swastika: The swastika has been used since 1000 BCE and until the Nazis had been used to represent the Sun, Good luck, and Power. Swastika is a derivative of "Svastika' a Sanskrit word that means "Su-good" "vast-to be" and "Ka-particle". OR simply: To be good.
Jump forward couple centuries and through the many cultures that used the swastika to Nazi Germany. Hitler obviously chose the symbol for its connotation with Power and good luck, he even added a Roman Eagle to bring the might and Mythology of Rome unto his movement.
Since WWII the Swastika has represented hatred, bigotry, genocide, evil incarnate, nationalism, and general monstrosity.
Terrified at the concept of another war, Europe initiated a strong community betweens its neighbors and laid a foundation for the contemporary European Union. Germany admonished beyond belief, had a cultural revolution that led to contemporary German's strong belief in individual rights, pacifism, and socialism.
The US grew sick of war and has since, never declared war, even if we occupied S. Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, and Iraq since then. A strong civil rights movement appeared and the hippies came out. Soft rock ruled the day.
Enter Punks.
Velvet Underground, the Clash, Sex Pistols, a new wave of aggressive, mean, violent music swept England. As much a movement against Soft rock and the rose colored glasses of the hippy movemenent as well as against Authoritarian Social conformity.
One of the aspects of Punk has always been that "dress is a form of protest." And the early punks knew how to shock their audiences, a giant swastika plastered center stage on their body. They found the ultimate taboo and shoved it in Europe's face.
Not only were they calling for a White riot but they were also threatening the queen and sporting Nazi paraphernalia. People outside the punk movement called them Nazis and that attracted the putz-fuck neo-nazis, a breed of particularly stupid human.
We punks know what they were doing. Punk is about questioning authority. Anarchy is about not being threatened by an authoritarian body. Punks can not be Nazis. Nazis are totalitarian authorities that demand conformity and absolute obedience. They are racists--they lower an individual to one aspect of his person. That is not punk, that is never punk. That can not be punk.
God Save the Queen, The fascist regime. Sid Vicious and Jonny Rotten were attacking England for its support of the Holocaust. The US and England closed its border and would not allow German Jewish Refugees from entering their (our country). Ford, the American Car inventor was a flamming anti-semite and Volkswagen was a Nazi Defense contractor like Boeing today.
Punks threw that into our faces; The parents of the hippies, our grand parents, were basically Nazis, in the US, Granddad sent all the "japs" into internment camps and took their property. They yelled at the uppity niggars trying to sit in front of the bus. The Swastika for one brief decade was transformed to represent the hidden secret we all carried. Punks moved the swastika from third-Reich Germany and placed it over Western Europe.
It therefore became a rallying call to all punks. It said fuck authority, because our authority is Germany's authority. It said, "things are not okay." "We didn't have the holocaust, but we never stopped the holocaust." What would happen if there Germany didn't expand its territory? would we stop them from killing all their Jews?
Germany was punished, but what about the Vatican? What about the Royal English Family? What about France? What about every person that cultivated the same anti-Semitism found in Nazi Germany? What happened to them?

Fucking Neo Nazis.
Neo Nazis are fucks. Not only are they generally mean people, but they also are the greatest conformists--more so than military men. Fucking shits.
The Neo Nazis were like parasites who needed anything to keep their bullshit together. And while real punks were fighting against the soma-propaganda of post war Europe and America, these fucks, like Hitler's Youth to a bonfire, stole back the swastika.
In the Eighties Punk and Skinheads (who were socialist/communist brotherhood of laborers) started to be associated with Nazis! They took our music and whats worse, called themselves punks and skinheads. They attempted to hijack our movement and were internally knocked the fuck out with hits like the dead Kennedy?s " fuck you neo-nazi punks".
Unfortunately, the outside world ,angry at being attacked, smiled smugly and said, "see, i told you so." Swastikas were re-claimed by Nazis and Punks have since, been on a crusade proving to the world that we aren't Neo-Nazis.
Fuck that.
I post a swastika on my profile to say fuck you neo nazis. I post a swastika on my profile to say to the world that your sensitive behavior won't stop me from making you confront the garbage you start: Rwanda, Darfur, North Korea, Chechnya, Iraq, Bosnia-- you don't think I'm going to let you go just because of some Nazi fuck do you?
And It'll get worse. I post a swastika to stand up for the now dead and rotting Vicious. But, I'm not here to play '77. I'm also getting pictures of Hamas to confront Israeli Neo Nazis fucks.
So, I suggest that any punk who wants to kick neo nazis out of our movement then post a swastika on your board and use it to rally punks to punks,
continue to stand up for those that can't fight and Fuck any authority that tells you that your swastika is wrong and that it really means what they want it to.
Fuck All Authority, Anarchy, Socialism, Punks.

BURN THE PUNK MOVEMENT TO THE FUCKING GROUND
God Save The Queen.
Fucking Emo is not Punk and neither is apathy. The punk ideal has pretty much died with the advent of The Offspring and Greenday. It's done. The majority of Punk Rock listeners are now a bunch of emo-pussy-suburbanit e corporate dogs. This very site is another chain put around you kids that think your troubles at school are more important than the actual issues facing our community.
I know this comes off as arrogant. Sorry. I genuinely am, but we are all supposed to be part of the punk community. The community that pushes the envelope, that pushes for change. There is a reason for the Swastikas. and its not racism.
I wanted to introduce myself and say that I'm looking to meet people on this board who share my ideals for a punk lifestyle; I'm looking for real punkers not posers.
So all you rockers that are interested in fighting for hardcore punks and reinvigorating the now dead punk movemnt--mostly by condmening all Blink-182 "punkers" and standing for the ideals of our punk heroes: Being Socially Conscience, Being Inquisitive, Standing for an ideal, Maintaining a circle of anarchy and keeping Money out, DIY and all that good shit.
Any Apathetic fuck can go listen to fucking Offspring, while we go about kicking the corporates and all the lame-ass parasite bands that dominate internet communities, not based on merit, but the money that goes in their ads, right the fuck out.
And if that means destroying the contemporary "Punk" movement and starting another one then fuck it. After all How can you be a punk, a misfit, if you identify yourself with the multi-million dollar "punk" industry?
Finally, if I pissed you kids off, and fuck it I'll call any superficial punk worse, at least your fucking feeling something.
